Japanese media reported that a prestigeous American newspaper carried an article on Japan which leans to right. Another article with the similar argument by a foreign journalist appeared in English newspaper published in Japan. The author of the latter article pointed out as one of the reasons that Japan has suffered from long economic recession and people are seeking for another target in order to distract themselves from the economic woes. He suggests that such trend raised nationalism, as proven by the election of conservative politician Mr.Abe as the president of LDP, the movement for the constitutional revision by major politicians and high interest in territorial issues among Japanese public. He also says that Japanese misunderstand their history and gloss over the atrocities Japanese soldiers committed during the war, though his tone might have be a bit softer.
To foreign countries, especially U.S. and China, meek Japan is desirable. If Japan claims nothing in territorial issues and keep appologizing to Asian countries forever, it is most comfortable to any other countries. But we want to know the true history, what really happened. I hope scientific research will be conducted on our past and based on the historic facts found thereby Japan will apologize and make necessary compensations. That article cited Shintaro Ishihara's book " Japan that cannot say No". Now U.S. may be irritated about Japan who begins to say ”No”.
