US presidents were ranked by net-worth in which all values are expressed in 2010 dollars after being adjusted for inflation. Average of their net-worths is 6.2 million dollars, 200 times the average net-worth of a US adults. Civil war time presidents such as Lincoln and Grant are poor, whereas the recent president such as two Bushes and Clinton are relatively richer. Kennedy tops the list. Since he comes from millionaire family, a part of his asset may have been inherited from his parents.
It was pointed out that many of the earlier presidents made their fortunes before serving presidents. In contrast many of the modern presidents boost their wealth through publishing and public speaking after becoming presidents. Sitting president Obama is ranked around middle, possibly because there is restriction in his private activities such as publishing and speaking.
PM Abe's asset was recently reported to be 39 million, far less than US president(one 160th). Pension plan of national diet member in Japan including PM was reduced some years ago. I feel sorry for them. They are elite people chosen by election. If they have hard time financially in their old age, it is shameful. More importantly it may discourage promising young people to be diet members.
