創造のヒマラヤ、神々しいヒンズークシュ

これで私は新しい自分に生まれ変わりました
私は、見たもの聞いたことに影響を受けやすいタイプです。 テレビでマラソン中継を見ると、すぐにジョギングを始めたくなります。 毎日腕立て伏せをしている人の話を聞くと、自分も毎日腕立て伏せ使用と思います。 英語がペラペラな人を見ると、よし、英語を勉強しようと思います。 思っただけではだめですので、実行に移すことにします。 昔の自分は、実行に移す時よく次のように考えました 今日は天気が悪いから、明日からジョギングしよう。 今日は、腕が痛いから明日から腕立て伏せしよう。 今日は出かけなければいけないから、明日から英単語を覚えよう。 せっかく新しい習慣を身につけようと、心に決めたのに、「明日」から実行しようかなぁ、って思ってしまうのです。 つい、今日できない理由を考えて、自分を納得させてしまうのです。 「今」できない理由なんて有りません。 直ちに「今」から第一歩を踏み出すように心掛けるようにしました。 その一歩の積み重ねで、どんどん新しい自分に生まれ変わっています。【Bon app?tit !】 朝鮮戦争勃発は1950年6月25日 After WWII, Korea was divided at the 38th parallel, with Soviet forces occupying the north and US forces occupying the south. ダルエスサラームの朝の漁港は生活の糧

乾季：生命の息吹はどこへ？

refurbish、英語を磨き直すぞぉ!!
「I want you to refurbish the house.」という文章を目にしました。 私は、この文章を読み間違えて「I want you to refurnish the house.」と読んで、しばらく気が付きませんでした。 refurbishをrefurnishと読み間違えても意味は通じるので、暫くその読み間違いに気が付きませんでした。 refurnishは、新しい家具を備え付ける時に使う単語です。 それに対して、refurbishは、「make clean, bright, or fresh again」と言いたい時に使います。 別の言葉でいえば、freshen up, renovateですね。 冒頭の文章は、「家を改装してもらいたい」という意味でしたが、私は、読み間違えて「家に家具を備え付けてもらいたい」と理解してしまいました。 refurbishには「refurbish one's English」という使い方もあります。 この場合は「英語を改装する」ではなく、「（忘れかけた）英語を磨き直す」という意味になるのだそうです。 この文章使えそうですね。 私の職場は、築４０年くらい経っていて、かなり古ぼけていたため、We refurbished the offices in the hopes that a new look would make for happier, more productive employees. 職員は幸せになったでしょうか？効率的に仕事ができるようになったでしょうか？ さて、ここで、英単語に関する私の経験を聞いて下さい。 「知らない英単語はない！」と周りの人に豪語すると、知らない英単語が本当に無くなります。 真似して、「知らない英単語はない！」と豪語してみましょう【Bon app?tit !】 親の離婚の子供への影響 It appears that children of divorced parents lag behind their peers in math and social skills and are more likely to have anxiety, stress, and low self-esteem. 夜中に光輝く蟻塚発見？
蟻塚↑（2010年9月17日、モロゴロ－ドドマ、タンザニア） 今は、2010年9月17日。 タンザニアに来ています。 今朝、モロゴロを出発して、タンザニアの首都ドドマに向かっているところです。 ドドマは、地理的にタンザニアの中心にある内陸の街です。 ドドマに向かう道の周りに、サバンナの風景が広がります。 大草原に灌木がポツリポツリ。 星の王子様で有名になったバオバオの木も、ここでかなり目につきます。 バオバオの木は、マダガスカルにしかないと思っていましたが、ここタンザニアにもあり感激です。 道路から、高さ２ｍ位の塚のようなものがありました。 どうも、蟻塚のようです。 夜中に光り輝く蟻塚を映像で見たことがありますが、ここの蟻塚も光るのでしょうか？【Bon app?tit !】 聴覚のみの生活により活性化視覚中枢 Certain animals, notably bats and dolphins, use echolocation（反響定位）, a system in which sounds are emitted and their echoes interpreted, to determine the direction and distance of objects in their environments. 風雪の雪山で夢が命を救う
私は、良く山登りをしました。 最近は、登っていませんが、低山歩きを始めようかなぁと思っているところです。 山は、晴れていると思っていても、急に霧が出てくることがあります。 周り一面真っ白になり、空と地面の区別がつかなくなることがあります。 そんな時は、もちろん方向も分かりません。 樹林帯を抜けてからの霧は、近くに目印がないだけに、どっちに行ったら良いのかものすごく不安になります。 でも、目指す頂上がなくなるわけではありません。 その昔、那須の三本槍岳に向かっている時、濃霧に巻き込まれました。 そこは、だだっ広い所で方向がとても分かりにくいところです。 しかも、降り積もった雪のため雪原になっていますので、夏道は雪の下に埋もれて見えません。 5人のグループで登っていたのですが、どっちに進んだらいいか意見が分かれ、グループの仲間内で険悪なムードになってしまいました。 今日は、動かないで雪の中でビバークするしかないかと私は考えていました。 すると、一瞬ですが霧が晴れて頂上が見えました。 頂上の方角が分からず、どっちに進むか、意見が分かれ険悪なムードになっていた仲間たちも、頂上を見て安心します。 夢もおんなじだなぁって思いました。 見えなくて、どんなに不安になっても、夢があると信じることをやめなければ夢はそこにあるものなのですね。 【Bon app?tit !】 大腸菌ドイツで大暴れ A widespread enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli (EHEC)（腸管出血性大腸菌）outbreak has health authorities in Europe cautioning people to avoid fresh produce until the source of the contamination is found.
