★★★海賊襲撃後行方不明の日本人乗組員２人の安否に不安

crew members who have been missing since the vessel was hijacked by pirates in the Malacca Strait on Monday. Malaysian officials conducted an overnight search for the two missing men and 31-year-old Filipino crew member who was also abducted , but failed to find them.

Numerous kidnappings have occurred in the strait, located between Indonesia and Malaysia, and officials investigating
possible that an organized group was responsible .

Attacked was the 323-ton tugboat Idaten , owned by Kitakyushu-based shipping company Kondo Kaiji. The two Japanese crew members were identified as ship captain Nobuo Inoue, 56, and chief engineer Shunji Kuroda, 50. The vessel was reportedly taken over by the pirates while it was towing a ship at an oil-digging field off the coast of Myanmar. Idaten, the name of a deity , means swift runner.

a dozen pirates approached the tug boat in the strait at about 6:30 p.m. (7:30 p.m. Japanese time), and several assailants carrying weapons boarded the Idaten.

The pirates reportedly seized between about 700,000 and 800,000 yen in
cash, along with the ship's records, and then abducted the three crew members. Two bullet holes Idaten by the pirates, officials said. The vessel was found by Malaysian authorities on Monday evening.

At the time of the attack there were eight Japanese and six Filipinos on
board, but all others besides the three who were abducted escaped unscathed . None of the 156 members aboard the ship the tugboat was towing were injured, officials founded.

Officials at the Japanese Consulate General in Penang said the tugboat was expected to arrive back in port on Tuesday afternoon. One crew member recounted the attack.
"A fishing boat approached us and three men armed with rifles and other weapons came on board," the crew member said. "We were
threatened and they stole between about 700,000 and 800,000 yen along
the ship's documents. They abducted Captain Nobuo Inoue, and the other two
then fled ."

Initial reports said the kidnappers had demanded ransom for the return of the men, but the reports remained to be confirmed . Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi has requested a full search for the missing crew members.

Kondo Kaiji officials said they would do their best to rescue the men under the guidance of the Foreign Ministry. The Malacca Strait is an area
plagued with pirates, but there had been a decrease in attacks since the major tsunami that ravaged Asia on Dec. 26 last year.

　月曜日マラッカ海峡で船が海賊に襲撃された後、行方不明となっている２人の日本人乗組員の安否に対する懸念が続いている。マレーシアの政府当局では行方不明の２人の男性とやはり海賊に拉致された31歳のフィリピン人乗組員の捜査を夜通し行ったが、発見には到っていない。インドネシアとマレーシアの間のマラッカ海峡では海賊による数多くの誘拐事件が発生しており、今回の事件を捜査している当局の話では、なんらかの犯罪組織が事件に関与しているとのことである。

　襲撃されたのは、北九州にある船舶会社、近藤商事の所有する323トンのタグボート
「韋駄天」である。行方不明の日本人２人は船長の井上信夫さん（56歳）とチーフ・エンジニアの黒田俊司さん（50歳）とわかった。調べによると、ミャンマー沖の油田採掘区域で韋駄天が一隻の船を牽引している時に海賊が襲撃してきたらしい。「韋駄天」とは神の名で「疾走する走者」の意味である。

　近藤商事によると、午後6時半頃（日本時間７時半）海峡で、12人ほどの海賊を乗せた
一隻のボートが韋駄天に接近し、武器を持った何人もの海賊が韋駄天に乗りこんできたという。伝えられるところでは、海賊は70万～80万の現金を奪い、3人の乗組員を誘拐したとのことだ。関係者によると、韋駄天には海賊に撃ち込まれた2つの弾痕があったという。マレーシア政府当局が月曜日の晩、韋駄天を発見した。

　襲撃当時、船には8人の日本人と6人のフィリピン人がいたが、拉致された3人以外は、
皆無事に逃げることができた。このタグボートが牽引していた船の乗客156人は全員無事だった。ぺニンの日本領事館によると、韋駄天は火曜日の午後には港に戻ることが予測される。

　一人の乗組員が状況を詳しく語った。「一隻の漁船が接近してきて、ライフルや他の武器で武装した海賊が乗りこんできた。威嚇されて、80万ほどの現金を盗まれた。井上船長
と他の２人が連れ去られた。」

　当初の報道では、人質と引き換えに海賊は身代金を要求しているとのことだったが、その後もこの報道は確証のあるものとなっている。小泉首相は、行方不明者の捜査に尽力するよう要請した。また近藤商事も、外務省の指示に従い、人質救出に全力を挙げると語った。マラッカ海峡は海賊が頻繁に事件を起こす所だが、昨年12月26日、アジアに甚大な被害を与えた大津波以来、襲撃はぱったりと無くなっていた。
