It is the custom to show their parents wishes for their children grow healthy. Kashiwa-mochi is wrapped in plant leave , named Sankirai tree. There are thorns on the vine of this tree, so even the wild animals such as monkeys don’t like this tree. But when the leaves are steamed, they have very nice scent. The surface of the leaves is glossy, and Mochi is easy to peel from the leaves, therefore it’s easy to eat. It seems to have wrapped rice cakes with this leaf because of its antibacterial effect, too.
