The engine remains the same in the 2013 Chevrolet Traverse . A reliable 3.6-liter V6 delivers 281 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque. Although it does still have a six-speed automatic transmission, it has had a few tweaks to improve shift response. This vehicle comes as front or all-wheel drive. Although fuel-economy information is not yet available, it is expected to be about the same as the 2012 model at 17 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway. Zero to 60 mph takes a respectable 8.6 seconds and Traverse can tow approximately 5,200 pounds, when properly equipped. Then 2013 Traverse is a pleasure to drive. It handles well and offers a comfortable ride, but with its large turning circle and beefy size, it can be a challenge to maneuver and park. There are certainly other crossovers that are a bit more agile. There is also compromised rear visibility that could pose a problem.
• Touchscreen - The 2013 Traverse gets a newly designed 6.5-inch color touchscreen in the center stack that is integrated with a rearview camera.
• MyLink - Optional is the MyLink Infotainment System that offers Pandora audio streaming, smartphone integration and Bluetooth.
• Navigation and Rear Entertainment - This package gives you a DVD-based navigation system that includes real-time traffic. It also includes a DVD player for the back seat and two wireless headphones. If that’s not enough, audio is upgraded too with 10 BOSE premium speakers.
• Universal Home Remote - Why have remotes cluttering your visor or glove box. This built-in remote has three easily programmable channels.
Crash tests have not yet been done on the 2013 model, but the 2012 Traverse was rated “Good” by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety in roof, side and frontal-impact crash tests. The new model year is expected to be as successful. Braking distances were a little slow; hopefully there will be an improvement in this department. Safety features include:
• Four-wheel antilock brakes
• Tire-pressure monitoring
• Post-collision safety system
• Emergency brakeforce distribution
• Stability control
• Engine immobilizer
• Front seatbelt pretensioners
• Traction control
• Emergency braking assist
• Child seat anchors
• Dusk-sensing headlamps
The first thing you will notice about the 2013 Chevrolet Traverse is the stylish new grille that pairs at the nose of the upper grille inlet. The front end now looks a little more polished with expensive headlamps and newly designed fog lights.
Seating for eight is possible in the 2013 Traverse, and unlike most the competition, this third row seat can comfortably accommodate adults. Easy access is granted to the third row seat by a sliding second row. If you don’t need seating for eight, you can opt for captain’s chairs in the second row instead for seven-passenger seating. The design of the cabin is attractive, but not over-the-top luxurious. The controls and gauges are thoughtfully placed, but the climate and audio control buttons are far too small and tend to get a little lost.
Traverse offers an impressive amount of cargo space. Behind the third row, there is a generous 24.4 cubic feet. If you put the two rear seats down, the 116.4 cubic feet is made available.
