While the exterior of the Tiguan remained much the same for 2012 Volkswagen the interior has been give a major tidy up, with some reviews even going as far as stating that the Tiguan's interior has reached as high as Audi quality. A new trim level has been added, the LE, designed to slot in between the S standard and the SE. No matter the variant, the Tiguan is worthy of praise both in terms of materials used and general standard of finish, with the dashboard being extremely well designed with a particularly user friendly interface.

The 2012 Volkswagen Tiguan now comes in a choice of four levels of trim, starting from the base S range working its way up through the LE and SE levels till reaching the SEL at the top.

The S version which is entry level comes with lots of standards starting from, keyless entry, steering wheel that both tilts and telescopes, heavy duty fabric upholstery, air conditioning, on board computer, CD player, eight speakers, auxiliary audio jack and sixteen inch aluminum wheels with 215/65R16 98H all weather tires, although those who go for the manual transmission will need to settle for steel. An optional extra for the S is a sunroof.

The LE, on the other hand, comes with tinted windows as standard, as well as heated front seats and leather effect vinyl upholstery as well as all of the standards that come with the S.

Moving up to the SE means a few nice additions to the roof rails, chrome trim, fog lamps, power reclining driver's seat, matching leather steering wheel and gear shift lever, upgraded touchscreen, interfaced sound system and eighteen inch alloy wheels on 235/50R18 97H all weather tires. Once again the sunroof remains an optional extra, this time coming as part of a package with an onboard GPS.

The SEL befitting its role as top of the range Tiguan comes with all of the above as well as keyless entry, bi xenon headlights, sports suspension, and ignition, eight way memory functioning power adjustable driver's seat, genuine hide upholstery, automatic climate control, and nineteen inch alloy wheels with 255/40R19 96H all weather tires.

Optional extras with the SEL include an upgrade to the navigation system with a large touchscreen, Dynaudio premium sound systems and a rearview camera. Top-of-the-line SEL models also get nineteen inch alloy wheels, adaptive xenon headlights and LED daytime running lights.

The 2012 version of the Volkswagen Tiguan Crossover 's 2.0-liter four cylinder turbocharged engine on six speed automatic transmission is reported to have improved fuel consumption on previous models thanks to some new engine alignments with ETA reporting figures of 24 miles per gallon average, with 22 miles per gallon in the city and 27 miles per gallon on the highway. The manual transmissioned S standard version provides considerably less satisfactory statistics with 22 miles per gallon consumed on average, with 18 miles per gallon in the city and 26 miles per gallon on the highway being reported.

The Volkswagen Tiguan Crossover SUV 's principal rivals in the bracket are some heavy hitters, among them no less than the Hyundai Tucson, Subaru Forester . Nissan Rogue, Kia Sportage, Chevrolet Equinox, Honda CR-V and the Toyota RAV4 making the Tiguan work hard for their share of the market.
