Performance

With exceptional refinement, impressive performance, and tenacious road handling grip, it is easy to see why the 2013 Audi RS 5 has received such rave reviews. Although new to the United States, the performance version of A5 and S5 has been available elsewhere in the world for a few years. Motivating the RS 5 is an exhilarating 4.2-liter V8 mated to a seven-speed automated manual with shift paddles. It churns out 450 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque, and sprints to 60 mph in 4.3 seconds. Do not expect it to go far on this gas tank though, as it yields only 16 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway. RS 5 gets Audi quattro® all-wheel drive that deftly channels power to appropriate wheels, working with torque vectoring, rear sports differential, and sports suspension calibration for incomparable grip and precise handling. It is a little heavier than rivals because of this, but goes toe-to-toe on acceleration, and cornering capabilities with most competitors.

Technology

• Audi connect™ - Access Google Earth™, find local fuel surfaces, and even turn your vehicle into a Wi-Fi hotspot with this feature.

Safety

The 2013 RS 5 has strong braking abilities, taking only 105 feet to stop from 60 mph. Although crash tests have not been performed on the coupe, Audi does tend to receive top ratings in vehicles tested by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. RS 5 gets the same sleek shape as A5 and S5, but receives aggressive accents to distinguish it from its siblings. A wider body, diamond mesh Audi Singleframe® grille, RS 5 badging, adaptive xenon plus headlights, and 10-spoke forged alloy wheels are a few of these standout characteristics.

Comfort

Standard 12-way Nappa leather sports seats and RS-carbon fiber inlays set the tone for the sporty yet luxurious cabin. A three-spoke, flat-bottom, multifunction steering wheel puts a number of controls at your fingertips, allowing the center stack to be streamlined and functional. The cabin was designed for the driver, with ample leg and headroom, supportive seats, and easy access to controls. Unfortunately, rear seat passengers were not really considered, as the lack of leg and headroom makes the backseat only welcoming to children.

Cargo

The available 12.2 cubic feet of cargo space is more than what most buyers are looking for in a coupe.
