The 2012 Buick Regal Hybrid eAssist Sedan is a new variant of last year's all new offering from the automaker that has been out to prove a point about its reputation. There is no doubt that there is a certain stigma associated with Buicks due to their tendency to be driven by seniors looking for a cushy ride from a brand they can trust. When Buick decided to revamp its lineup and take a new route with its offerings they thought a sport sedan would help them solidify a spot alongside the likes of Infinity and BMW. Sadly this did not go according to plan and the reintroduction of the Regal ended up being more hype than actual deliverance. This year the car company decided to take a different approach and offer a hybrid version of its highly advertised sport sedan. Fortunately from a driver's vantage point it is actually quite a capable vehicle that delivers a substantial increase in fuel economy. That makes it a worthy contender for anyone interested in a luxury sport sedan that is a little light on the actual sportiness.

No one would argue that the Regal Sedan doesn't offer great handling because it does but the power developing under the hood was always cause for concern due to its lack of oomph. The new Hybrid eAssist model comes with the base 2.4 L engine but boosts gas mileage by a whopping 25 percent which is quite a feat in and of itself. Most people are probably wondering right away if the system works well enough to be called a success. Luckily for Buick it is actually quite a seamless system that operates quietly and confidently without letting the driver know anything funky is going on. That is truly a very good thing when it comes to hybrids because many complaints of these powertrains stem from jerky transitions and lackluster performance. You will not find any of that with the Buick Regal Hybrid eAssist Sedan thanks to tireless efforts on the part of engineers at GM. Their hard work really paid off not only for the company but for buyers as well. It is not every day that a car company can boast such a substantial rise in fuel economy without any loss of horsepower in the process. There must've been many sleepless nights for those designers working on the Regal Hybrid eAssist and we certainly thank them for it.
