Porsche Coupe Reviews

From their early beginnings in the automobile industry, Porsche has been most well known well for their line of coupes. The Porsche Coupe is often considered one of the best, highest performing and most luxurious sports cars on the market. With roots in racing and rallies, this reputation has been well earned by producing quality vehicles that have stood the test of time. The founder of Porsche, Ferdinand Porsche, actually did not create a Porsche as his first automobile. Instead, his first successful venture was the Volkswagen Beetle. From those early days Porsche and Volkswagen would have a close relationship that would eventually culminate in a merger between the two.

The first Porsche Coupe, the 356, was designed when Ferdinand's son was unable to find a vehicle that he wanted to purchase. Instead, he would design his own. The 356 featured a rear engine and rear wheel drive and was the two-door model that Porsche would become famous for. It achieved much success in the motorsports area and was produced until 1965. Though it is not the most famous coupe released by Porsche, it is considered to be the classic of the line-up.

When it comes to being well-known and highly revered, there is no Porsche Coupe that can achieve the greatness that has come with the 911. First produced in 1963, this is the one coupe that is consistently being developed and yet seems to never change. As most trademark Porsches are, the 911 is a luxury two door vehicle. It also features Porsche's infamous rear engine and until 1996 it had an air-cooled engine. Today, the 911 is much larger and far more powerful than it has ever been. With only the top materials used to design the inside, there is no doubt that luxury is a top priority. Yet, buyers can still be assured that they will receive the superior performance that Porsche has become known for.

Many models of Porsche Coupe existed throughout the years and each were given a number as their name. From the 356 to the 928, there were a variety of engine builds and placements as well as a variety of features and benefits. The 930 would be the first turbocharged coupe offered by Porsche and the 959 would be dubbed the world's fastest street legal production car. Through the years Porsche has released front, mid and rear engine machines that are known to outperform most other models.

One model of Porsche Coupe that was not designated by a number is the Cayman. This mid-engine model was derived from the convertible Boxster and has been on the market since 2006. Because of engine placement, the Cayman has perfect balance which leads to the most exact steering and precise handling of a sports car. Luxurious materials in the cabin add to the feeling that the driver is going beyond the normal sports car realm. Curves are grabbed flawlessly and the power of the engine ensures that every ride is a thrill. The Cayman is still in production and, like the 911, is a symbol of what Porsche was designed to be.
