Scion is a unique brand in that it was created by an already popular car manufacturer with a sole purpose in mind. Toyota Motor Corporation wanted to appeal to a younger audience and felt that they needed to find the right way to do just that. After a failed attempt with such releases as the Echo, the company decided to create an entirely new line and name that was geared towards the audience they wanted to retain. The result was the Scion which was unveiled at the New York Auto Show in 2002. Though most people still call it the Toyota Scion, the Scion is actually a name on its own rather than a model. So what are the choices in a Scion Sedan?

As of today, Scion has not released what is traditionally considered a sedan. The majority of the Scion sedan choices are hatchback models. Though this particular modified sedan style is highly popular among the younger generations, it does not have the same feel as a traditional sedan. That being said, there have been a few released since Scion opened for business.

The very first car that was released from Scion was the Scion XA. This five door hatchback version of the Scion sedan is a subcompact that was on the market from 2004 to 2006. It shared its platform with the Toyota Platz Sedan. Like most subcompact hatchbacks, the Scion XA offers room for four passengers and plenty of additional cargo space. Generally not as roomy as a traditional sedan, the XA offered excellent gas economy and a lower cost alternative that was stylish enough for the pickiest of today's young adults.

Another in the line of Scion sedan models is the Scion XB. This five door compact hatchback is unique and easily recognized by many. That is because it features a distinct box shape that almost resembles a van. It was originally released for the market in 2004, but it was changed to a five door compact MPV in 2007. It retained it's recognizable box shape and gained many of the benefits of an MPV.

While many of the Scion sedan alternatives are hatchback models, not every one is. The tC is one vehicle that would fall somewhere between a sedan and a coupe. This five door car is a liftback model and features the benefits of a sedan with the styling that is popularized by most coupes on the market today.

The only Scion sedan that is still in production today is the XD. Like the earlier models, the XD is a five door hatchback that boasts many sedan features. Though roomy enough for four passengers, the hatchback is still smaller than a traditional sedan would be. It was released in 2007 and is currently still be offered.

Whether or not Scion releases a full sedan version will depend on how they feel it will work with their target market. Many of the younger generation are looking for small, economical vehicles over the larger family cars. This plays a large role in the company's decision to only offer hatchback models at this time.
