The station wagon was a popular vehicle for many decades, but has since seen a drastic decline. Most manufacturers have eliminated their station wagon models in favor of crossovers and SUVs. Subaru is one of the few automobile manufacturers that continue to have a wagon model. The Subaru wagon has been around since the inception of the station wagon and there are still several models available today. Like most Subaru vehicles, the wagon is easily identifiable by its unique design, components and style. Even as Subaru has tackled the SUV market, the wagon has remained a popular choice among many consumers.

One of the models of Subaru wagon is the Exiga. The Exiga debuted as a concept card at the Tokyo Motor Show in 2007 and is classified as a medium sized MPV. However, the five door wagon that has been produced since 2008 is still widely chosen by those who prefer the station wagon model. It features such extensive features as a panoramic glass roof and theater style seating. This combination of an MPV and wagon can easily seat seven passengers and features a design that is unique only to Subaru.

The Subaru Impreza is one of the more popular models of Subaru and one of the most well known varieties of Subaru wagon. The Impreza Debuted in 1993 as a compact car and offered an all wheel drive option on its vehicle. Though it is currently on its fourth generation as a sedan, the wagon model was only offered through the first generation. When the second generation debuted in 2001 there was no wagon offered and it has not be offered since.

Those who think of a Subaru often associate it with the Legacy. This is one of the most widely known models of Subaru in both sedan and wagon form. The Legacy is one of the few Subaru wagons that still exist on the market today and is one of the oldest models of wagon from Subaru. The first generation was released in 1989 and began with a five door wagon that offered the choice of front wheel or all wheel drive. By the third generation in 1998 the flat roof had been replaced by the raised roof and the wagon had been redesigned several times. The current fifth generation has replaced the transmission with a continuously variable transmission, but the line still offers the wagon that it has always been known for.

Another Subaru wagon that is produced is actually not manufactured by Subaru. Instead it is the product of Toyota but is badged under the Subaru name. This is the Dex. It is a small box shaped wagon that is widely known simply by the shape.

Even as the wagon seems to be dying off, there is still a market for this model of vehicle. Subaru realized that and has kept several models available to their customers. For some, there is no need for an SUV when a Subaru wagon will do what is needed with better fuel economy.
