- This was the first no-hitter in Mets history, breaking a streak of 8,019 games over 50 years.
- A controversial call by third base umpire Adrian Johnson in the sixth inning almost resulted in ejections for Cardinals manager Mike Matheny and third base coach Jose Oquendo. Carlos Beltran's line drive down the third base line appeared to hit the chalk just after it cleared the third base bag, but Johnson called it foul. Beltran then grounded out to third and Oquendo and Matheny bagan jawing at Johnson during Matt Holliday's at-bat. Oquendo confronted Johnson before Matheny intervened and argued the call, but no one was kicked out of the game.
- Santana threw a career-high 134 pitches and it's speculated the workload ended his career; his previous high was 125 in 2008 and he'd only reached 120 pitches fives times in his career prior to the no-hitter.
- He'd had shoulder surgery on September 14, 2010 and didn't return until April 5, 2012, but he looked like he was fully recovered when he started the season with a 2.38 ERA through 11 starts, including his no-hitter.
- After the no-hitter, however, Santana pitched to a 8.27 ERA and averaged only 88 pitches per start before he was shut down in mid-August. He underwent a second surgery on April 2, 2013 but never pitched in the majors again.
