Schuerholz Headlines Week of New Seamheads Podcasts

I’m happy and proud to announce that we’ve successfully launched the Seamheads National Podcasting Network sponsored by Big League Chew on Blog Talk Radio and we’ll be bringing you four new podcasts in the coming week in addition to those that recently debuted and those we’ve been doing since May and September, respectively.  Our goal is to be informative and entertaining and I think we’ve done and will continue to do both.

Sunday, February 13marks the debut of “Gateway to Baseball Heaven,”a St. Louis Cardinals podcast hosted by Bill Ivie, founder of i70baseball.com and Assignment Editor at BaseballDigest.com, and Daniel Shoptaw, creator of the Baseball Bloggers Alliance.

Monday, February 14features our flagship show, “What’s On Second: The Seamheads.com Radio Hour,”hosted by former minor league play-by-play man Steve Lenox, yours truly, and 17-year-old Yankee fan Jess Coleman, and featuring new addition Ron Kaplan of “Ron Kaplan’s Baseball Bookshelf”; and the newly minted “The Sully Baseball Show,”featuring Emmy-nominated television producer Paul “Sully” Sullivan whose credits include “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” and “The Bonnie Hunt Show.” He has appeared on HBO Sports’ “The Curse of the Bambino” as well as ESPN2 and the award winning baseball documentary “Spaceman: A Baseball Odyssey.”  Sully’s guests thus far have included Gar Ryness (The Batting Stance Guy); Adam Felber, comedian, Yankee fan and Emmy-nominated writer for Bill Maher; Andres du Bouchet, comedian Mets fan and Emmy-nominated writer for Conan O’Brien; and comedians/writers/producers Chris DeLuca (Yankee fan), Wes Hofmann (A’s fan) and Clayton Fletcher (Orioles fan).

Tuesday, February 15marks the debut of “View From the Lone Red Seat,”a Boston Red Sox podcast hosted by stand-up comedian, writer and teacher Dave Rattigan, who has worked with notable comedians such as Steven Wright, Jeff Dunham and Adam Ferrara, as well as The Beach Boys and Bob Marley.  Co-hosts and contributors will include long-time Sox fans Jeffrey Brown and Chris Mascaro and Cape Cod resident and Sox fan Judy Johnson.

Tuesday, February 15also features episode two of “The Evil Empire and The Nation: 60 Minutes of Sox/Yanks,”featuring Bostonian Chris Mitchell, who wrote for Rotowire.com and served as an assistant producer at WBZ radio in Boston, and New Yorker George Kurtz, who writes for Rotowire.com, FantasySportsForum.com and the FantasySportsGroup, and has written for CBS Sports. He’s also appeared on ESPN radio out of Jacksonville with Tony Cincotta.

Thursday, February 17marks the debut of “Braves Banter,”hosted by prolific author and former AP sportswriter Dan Schlossberg, who’s written 35 baseball books and more than 25,000 articles about the game, including biographies of Ron Blomberg and Milo Hamilton, and Curt Hitchens.  Thanks to Dan’s long-time friendship with the Braves organization, their front office and their players, the podcast’s first guest will be highly respected baseball executive and Braves president John Schuerholz.  Then in week number two, Dan and Curt will discuss Braves baseball with legendary broadcaster Pete Van Wieren, who spent 33 years calling Braves games and was inducted into the Braves Hall of Fame in 2004.

Thursday, February 17also brings the debut of “Outta the Parkway”from Baltimore/D.C., hosted by writers Chip Greene, Ted Leavengood and Bijan Bayne.  Chip is a member of SABR and writes for the BioProject website and Yankees Annual magazine, and has contributed to several upcoming SABR book projects. Ted was recently named Managing Editor of Seamheads.com and has two books published with McFarland and Company, Publishers with another on the way. Bayne is a Washington-based freelance writer, who won the Robert Peterson Research Award for his presentation “The Struggle of the Latin American Ballplayer,” given at the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown, N.Y. Bayne’s chapter on Black baseball in North Carolina appears in the book Baseball in the Carolinas (McFarland 2002).

Their first guests will be Bob Luke, author of The Baltimore Elite Giants: Sport and Society in the Age of Negro League Baseball and The Most Famous Woman in Baseball: Effa Manley and the Negro Leagues , and Dwayne Sims, the founder and CEO of the Negro League Legends Hall of Fame.  Hal Keller, former Washington Senators catcher and younger brother of Charlie Keller, will appear on the February 24 podcast, and former Senators hurler and current Tampa Bay Rays pitching coordinator Dick Bosman will appear on March 3.

More shows will be debuting soon, including New York’s “A Bite Off The Big Apple,”Seattle’s “Steady As She Goes,”Detroit’s “Tiger Tales,” “The Seamheads Fantasy Baseball Show”and podcasts out of Chicago, Houston and San Francisco.
