Johnny Walker's season is over before it started.
The Denver Broncos are placing the undrafted rookie on injured reserve, the Denver Post 's Luca Evans first reported Thursday. Walker (6-3, 250 pounds) has a lower body injury, according to KUSA-TV's Mike Klis .
Because he is going on IR before the initial 53-man roster is set, Walker will be ruled out for the entire season. The only way Walker could return this year would be to reach an injury settlement with the Broncos to get released from IR and then become a free agent.
Walker was considered one of the UDFA favorites to end up on the active roster after he received the biggest signing bonus ($20,000, tied) and the most guaranteed money ($254,000) among the UDFA additions this spring. Instead, the pass rusher is now set to spend his rookie year on IR.
Denver's remaining active-roster outside linebackers are Jonathon Cooper , Jonah Elliss , Nik Bonitto , Dondrea Tillman , Que Robinson Andrew Farmer and Garrett Nelson, who just signed today .
Walker, who had 9.5 sacks at Missouri last fall and 18.5 sacks in 41 career games with the Tigers, will hope to return and win a spot in the outside room in 2026.
