The Denver Broncos are shaking up their running back depth chart , bringing in veteran J.K. Dobbins on a one-year deal .
The full contract details are not yet known -- and the signing is not yet official -- but NFL Network (and other outlets) have reported the contract is worth "up to" $5.25 million. The key to that is "up to."
Dobbins' base salary will undoubtedly be much lower, but he can reach that $5.25 million number if he hits every incentive in his deal. We're still waiting for the full details, including his signing bonus, base salary and cap hit.
The 26-year-old running back earned just over $1.6 million with the Los Angeles Chargers last fall. After being plagued by injuries in four years with the Baltimore Ravens , Dobbins bounced back to total 1,058 yards from scrimmage and score nine touchdowns in 13 games with the Chargers (he did miss four games due to injury).
It's a relatively low-risk move for the Broncos because they already have second-round draft pick RJ Harvey . Denver won't have to lean on Dobbins in 2025, and if the veteran is ever unavailable, they will have Harvey available to handle a bigger workload ( plus Audric Estime and others ).
So while we don't know the full contract details yet, it seems like a good move for the Broncos.
