The Jacksonville Jaguars can't afford too many more injuries, but a key player got hurt early in their game on Nov. 16 against the Los Angeles Chargers at EverBank Stadium.
Cornerback Greg Newsome came out with an ankle injury in the first quarter after trying to make a tackle on a run by the Chargers' Kimani Vidal . The Jaguars announced at the beginning of the second half that Newsome was out for hte game.
Newsome was blocked by guard Jamaree Sayler and was forced to the ground awkwardly, with his right ankle buckling under him.
When he was injured, Newsome rolled on the ground in pain on the far side of the field, in front of the Chargers' sideline. Jaguars coach Liam Coen was concerned enough to walk all the way across the field to check on him.
Later in the period, Newsome was seen jogging along the sideline and talking to coaches, but he never returned.
His injury left the Jaguars with only three healthy cornerbacks, Jarrian Jones , Christian Braswell and Montaric Brown . Jourdan Lewis has been inactive for two weeks with a neck injury.
It was Newsome's fourth game since arriving in Jacksonville in a trade for Tyson Campbell . He has nine tackles and four assists, and broke up three passes.
