BATON ROUGE — It's finally happening.
As the LSU women's basketball coach, Kim Mulkey will coach against her alma mater, Louisiana Tech, this season. The team announced the matchup between LSU and Tech on Tuesday as part of the Compete 4 Cause Classic showcase Dec. 13 in New Orleans at the Smoothie King Center.

The LSU men's basketball team will face SMU in the other part of the doubleheader for the event as well. Tipoff times for the games will be decided at a later date.
LSU WBB ANNOUNCES 2025-26 SCHEDULE
Since Mulkey has taken over at LSU five years ago, LSU has played every other college team in Louisiana with the exception of Louisiana Tech. As recently as last season, when LSU traveled up to Bossier City to face Grambling State as a welcome home game for star guard Mikaylah Williams, Mulkey stated that she'd love to coach against Louisiana Tech — but it wouldn't be in Ruston.
Scheduling the game as a neutral-site showcase allowed for the highly anticipated matchup to come to fruition.

As a player and coach, Mulkey was part of two national championships, including the first NCAA women's basketball title in 1984 as a player, and one national title as an assistant coach to longtime coach Leon Barmore in 1988.
Mulkey was in the Louisiana Tech women's basketball program for 20 years.
LSU has now finalized its 2025-26 nonconference schedule with the Dec. 13 being the last open date it had when it first revealed its full schedule a couple of weeks ago. With the addition of Louisiana Tech, LSU has four in-state schools on its slate (Southeastern Louisiana, at Tulane and New Orleans).
The Tigers open the season Nov. 4 versus Houston Christian at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
