CLEVELAND— The NBA's best team this season vacated its arena for four days so the Mid-American Conference could take over Rocket Arena as March Madness ramps up. The MAC women's basketball tournament got underway Wednesday followed by the men's tournament Thursday. The winner of each tournament claims the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament .
The Akron men and Kent State women were looking to defend their MAC tournament titles from a year ago. They each remained alive heading into Friday's semifinals as the chalk held throughout the men's and women's quarterfinals, but only the Akron men reached Championship Saturday.
