The Las Vegas Raiders made a move at offensive tackle after submitting their initial 53-man roster . Fans were disappointed to see offensive tackle Thayer Munford make the first iteration of the team after he struggled in the preseason. General manager John Spytek has since waived Munford and added offensive tackle Stone Forsythe via free agency.
Unsurprisingly, there's a ton of familiarity between Forsythe and Raiders head coach Pete Carroll. Carroll coached Forsythe for three seasons with the Seattle Seahawks . The Raiders believe he'll be an upgrade on Munford at the swing tackle position behind Kolton Miller and DJ Glaze.
Forsythe was with the New York Giants in training camp this offseason. He was waived as part of the Giants' final 53-man roster cuts. Because Forsythe is a vested veteran with four accrued seasons, he wasn't subject to the waivers claim process, allowing the Raiders to sign him via traditional free agency.
Munford earned a pass-blocking grade of 37.6 in three preseason contests, according to Pro Football Focus. Mumford was blamed for allowing one sack and seven total pressures. Forsythe earned a sizable 413 snaps for the Seahawks at right tackle last year due to injuries. He also struggled, and the Seahawks didn't bring him back this offseason after his rookie contract expired.
The Raiders also added three offensive linemen to their practice squad , including tackle Dalton Wagner . Forsythe has experience playing both offensive tackle positions. Carroll was eager to reunite with Forsythe, who he clearly believes is better than Munford.
