- UNC basketball standout RJ Davis thrives in NBA G-League debut
It feels weird without RJ Davis on the UNC basketball team this season. Davis, a longtime Tar Heel and fan favorite, is now trying to make his first NBA roster.
As Davis prepares himself for that professional jump, he's playing with the South Bay Lakers . Name sound familiar? South Bay is the Los Angeles Lakers' G-League affiliate.
If Davis' first two games are any indication of his NBA readiness, he'll be play alongside LeBron James soon. During his G-League debut on Saturday night, Davis stuffed the stat sheet with 31 points, six rebounds, five assists, three steals and two blocks.
Davis delivered quite the encore performance on Sunday night, too: 24 points, seven rebounds, six assists, two steals and a block. South Bay won both games: 144-105 on Saturday, followed by a 123-113 final score Sunday.
Davis was part of three NCAA Tournament teams during his time at North Carolina, including a 2022 trip to the National Championship and 2024 run to the Sweet 16. Davis left UNC with 2,710 points, which is second in school history and third in ACC history.
The Tar Heels are currently sitting 2-0 heading into Tuesday's 7 p.m. tip-off against Radford, which enters with an identical mark. North Carolina won a thriller Friday night against Kansas , while previously dominating Central Arkansas in their season opener.
Seth Trimble is poised to take on Davis' leadership role this season for UNC, but the former will miss significant time with a broken bone. There's plenty of Tar Heels who can fill that Davis/Trimble void – Henri Veesaar, perhaps?
