The Boston Celtics closed out their regular season with a win over the Orlando Magic, 113-108 , at TD Garden on Sunday. The Celtics tallied a 56-26 record, including 30-11 at home. They went 9-2 in their last 11 outings.
Many believed, even so-called experts, that it would be a gap year for the Celtics following the Achilles injury of Jayson Tatum and the departures of Kristaps Porzingis, Jrue Holiday, and Al Horford . The team, however, refused to sit back and take the hit, earning the second seed in the Eastern Conference.
Even if their spot in the playoffs was already locked even before facing the Magic, the Celtics, who played without their usual lineup, refused to be rolled over.
Ben Scheierman , Luka Garza , and Ron Harper Jr. all had scoring career-highs against the Magic. Scheierman logged 30 points, while Garza and Harper each dropped 27 points.
The Celtics were without Tatum, Jaylen Brown , Derrick White , Neemias Queta , Sam Hauser , Payton Pritchard , and Nikola Vucevic .
The Magic, on the other hand, were in full force. Still, they could not defeat the Celtics, who notched at least 55 wins for the fourth straight season.
Scheierman, Garza, and Harper, who have played limited minutes for the majority of the campaign, took advantage of the opportunity to lead the Celtics. They scored efficiently, shooting a combined 48.2% from the field.
They were all over the court as well. Scheierman added seven rebounds, seven assists, and two steals, Garza had 12 rebounds, and Harper collected seven rebounds, four assists, and three steals.
The Celtics will await which of the Magic, the Philadelphia 76ers , the Charlotte Hornets , or the Miami Heat will get the seventh seed.
