The Philadelphia 76ers are searching for a new general manager after firing Daryl Morey shortly after being eliminated from the 2025-26 playoffs. While the club has several candidates in mind, the rumor mill reveals two names that can probably be crossed off the list.
In his latest piece for The Stein Line, NBA insider Jake Fischer revealed that Atlanta Hawks general manager Onsi Saleh and current 76ers consultant Neil Olshey are not likely to be considered to replace Morey. Saleh finished second for the Executive of the Year and will maintain his role in Atlanta, while Olshey is not even pursuing a GM job with Philadelphia at this time.
“Philadelphia would have relished pursuing another Warriors alumnus — Hawks general manager Onsi Saleh — but the Sixers have conceded that Saleh is not going to be available to them after he finished second in Executive of the Year balloting to Boston ’s Brad Stevens in his first full season in charge in Atlanta,” claimed Fischer…
“I’m told that former [ Los Angeles ] Clippers and [Portland] Trail Blazers top executive Neil Olshey, who holds a strong relationship with [Bob] Myers and has served as a Sixers consultant for the past three seasons, is not pursuing the job and won’t be part of this Myers-led search,” reported Fischer. “Sources say Olshey could, though, remain with the organization in an advisory role.”
Bob Myers, who stepped in as the 76ers’ interim President of Basketball Operations , is leading the general manager search to find Daryl Morey’s replacement. The former lead executive of the Golden State Warriors is said to have several interviews already lined up, including Cleveland Cavaliers general manager Mike Gansey and Minnesota Timberwolves general manager Matt Lloyd.
The 76ers hope to find a new GM before the 2026 NBA Draft, which kicks off on June 23. However, if a candidate is not found by then, Myers will be the one making the decisions on draft night.
