The Philadelphia 76ers are in the process of trying to find a new president of basketball operations after parting ways with Daryl Morey . Bob Myers is set to lead the search for the new executive, and he seems to have a few people on his list that he plans to go after.
One of those people happens to be Onsi Saleh, the Atlanta Hawks ' general manager, according to NBA insider Marc Stein.
"There is a widespread belief, given those parameters, that Myers would want to explore trying to hire Onsi Saleh away from Atlanta after Saleh worked under Myers in Golden State before moving on to the Hawks," Stein wrote. "The likelihood relayed to me, though, is that Saleh is expected to remain with the Hawks. Permission from Atlanta would be needed to pursue him and would presumably be difficult to secure after Saleh just finished second in Executive of the Year balloting to Boston 's Brad Stevens."
Myers could use the relationship he had with Saleh as a key point to try to get him to the 76ers, but that probably won't work. Saleh was promoted with the Hawks after last season following the firing of Landry Fields , and he helped the Hawks take a jump this season.
He signed Nickeil Alexander-Walker , who turned out to be the Most Improved Player this season. He also traded Trae Young at the deadline, which was a huge turning point for the franchise. Saleh made other moves along the margins, and in the end, it helped the Hawks get a top-six seed and advance to the playoffs.
The Hawks now have the No. 8 pick in the upcoming draft and have the chance to build a young, competitive team for years to see. It's hard to see Saleh leaving what he's built so far, but you never know.
