Alex Cora is without a job after the Red Sox fired him and five members of his coaching staff hours after Boston ’s blowout win over the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday.
But he might have a job in waiting.
Former MLB general manager Jim Bowden floated a potential team where Cora could end up.
“The most likely landing spot for Alex Cora is the # Phillies due to the fact Dave Dombrowski and Alex won that 2018 World Championship together and both have promoted the other as future Hall of Famers,” Bowden posted to X . “The mutual respect is special.”
Bowden added it would be “ more likely ” in 2027 than this season.
Cora and Dombrowski worked together in 2018 and won a World Series together. Cora helped lead the team to a historic 108-win season en route to beating the Los Angeles Dodgers in five games.
Dombrowski was fired in September 2019. He was hired by the Phillies as their president of baseball operations in 2020 and has been in that role since.
The Phillies, like the Red Sox , are off to a rough start to 2026. They’re 9-18 through their first 27 games.
Boston improved to 10-17 after Saturday’s 17-1 victory. Hours later, Cora was informed he , hitting coach Peter Fatse, third base coach Kyle Hudson, bench coach Ramón Vázquez, assistant hitting coach Dillon Lawson and major league hitting strategy coach Joe Cronin were all fired.
Cora posted “Happy!” on social media, and texted the same response to several Red Sox reporters.
It’s unclear what’s next for the 50-year-old. He said several times he doesn’t want to be an “old manager” and has expressed desire to move into a front-office role later in life.
Whatever is next for Cora is up to him, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see he has several options waiting for him.
