The Red Sox ' decision to fire Alex Cora on Saturday night caused a slew of reaction from the former manager himself and some of his ex-players.
One unnamed former player sent a text to WEEI's Rob Bradford on Sunday morning.
"It's like (expletive) your pants and changing your shirt," the player said .
Current players also expressed frustration over the move. Trevor Story , who's not in Sunday's lineup , said "some of the best coaches in the world didn't get a fair shot." The veteran shortstop also wants to speak to chief baseball officer Craig Breslow about the moves.
Cora , along with five members of his coaching staff, were relieved of their duties hours after Boston 's 17-1 victory over the Baltimore Orioles . After the postgame dinner, Cora returned to the Four Seasons Hotel in Baltimore where principal owner John Henry, team president/CEO Sam Kennedy and Breslow were there to break the news.
Cora took to social media to post he was "Happy!" and sent the same response to a handful of Red Sox reporters.
It's unclear what's next for the 50-year-old . He said several times he doesn't want to be an "old manager" and has expressed desire to move into a front-office role later in life.
Whatever is next for Cora is up to him, but it wouldn't be surprising to see he has several options waiting for him.
