The Colorado Avalanche start their Western Conference Final series against the Vegas Golden Knights on Wednesday. Colorado fans have been anxiously waiting to hear an update on defenseman Cale Makar , who has been hurt. Makar is getting a disappointing injury update on Tuesday.
“Looks like Cale Makar only one not on ice for Avs at practice,” The Denver Post’s Troy Renck posted to X, formerly Twitter.
Makar was considered day-to-day , after that announcement was recently made by Colorado head coach Jared Bednar. Bednar said the Avalanche were closely monitoring their defenseman’s health. If Tuesday is any indication, Makar’s chances of playing on Wednesday in Game 1 are murky.
Colorado is in the conference final after skating quickly past the Minnesota Wild and Los Angeles Kings in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Avalanche lost just one game in both of those series combined.
Makar has five points in this year’s playoffs. He is a leader in the locker room for this Colorado team. The Avalanche and their fans hope he is able to skate in the Golden Knights series.
“He had 79 points in 75 games for the Avalanche this season, a tick down by his lofty standards — Makar’s 1.05 points per game was the fifth-highest average of his career. Makar’s plus-32 was his second-best career rating in the regular season. Makar played in all situations for Colorado, with 4:11 in power play time and skating 1:57 per game shorthanded. The Avalanche scored 64% of the goals when Makar was on the ice at 5-on-5,” ESPN reported following the end of the regular season.
Time will tell if Makar is able to skate in Game 1 on Wednesday.
