The Bills fell short once again this season of reaching their ultimate goal.
When general manager Brandon Beane was asked about Buffalo’s shortcomings Wednesday during a press conference to discuss the decision to fire Sean McDermott , owner Terry Pegula interrupted to share his thoughts.
“A bad call,” he said as the reason the Bills didn’t move on to the AFC Championship Game.
Pegula is referring to a controversial call in overtime that led to the Denver Broncos earning an overtime win in the AFC Division game.
On third-and-11 from the Bills’ 36-yard line, Josh Allen threw a deep ball to Brandin Cooks , who looked to have hauled in the pass. Broncos cornerback Ja’Quan McMillian came up with the ball after the two rolled around on the field, though, and the officials ruled it was an interception.
Pegula said after the game he went into the locker room, noticed Allen crying and walked over to him. The quarterback didn’t acknowledge him but told Allen, “that was a catch.”
While there has been plenty of discussion regarding whether Cooks should have been awarded a catch, Allen turned the ball over four times against the Broncos, including two interceptions and as many lost fumbles.
The Bills now go into the offseason in search of a new coach as they try to get through the “ proverbial playoff wall ” in 2026.
