The Toronto Blue Jays have had a disappointing start to the 2026 MLB season, currently sitting at 18-24 about a month and a half into the campaign. The Blue Jays are coming off a devastating Game 7 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series a season ago, and concerns about how the team would bounce back from such a crushing defeat have not exactly been quelled thus far this season.
One of the recent bright spots for the Blue Jays has been the return of starting pitcher Trey Yesavage , who missed the opening chunk of the season due to an injury but has now made three starts on the year, looking quite impressive in all of them.
Recently, Blue Jays manager John Schneider got 100% real on just how impressed he's been with Yesavage so far this year.
"We're still treating him like we're building up early in the season a little bit, but he's been so good and impressive. Command with the fast ball has been really impressive… there are going to be some adjustments that are made, and he's going to have to deal with that, and I think he's dealing with that… He's picked up right where he left off," said Schneider, per MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM on X, formerly Twitter.
Yesavage emerged as a key cog in the Blue Jays' rotation during their run to the World Series last year, but he had to miss what would have been his first several starts this year with a shoulder issue.
However, as Schneider noted, he doesn't appear to have missed a beat upon his return and is providing one of the few beacons of hope for the Blue Jays amid what has otherwise been a turbulent 2026 season.
