The Toronto Blue Jays finally received encouraging news Wednesday regarding two of the organization's biggest pitching names. Manager John Schneider provided meaningful updates on Shane Bieber and Max Scherzer , offering renewed optimism that Toronto's injury-riddled rotation could soon receive much-needed reinforcements.

The Blue Jays have struggled to stabilize their starting staff throughout the 2026 season. Injuries across the rotation have repeatedly forced Toronto into bullpen-heavy games and constant pitching adjustments. For that reason, every update involving Bieber and Scherzer carries major importance for the club's postseason hopes moving forward.
Bieber appears to be entering the final stages of his recovery process after progressing through bullpen sessions and live work in recent weeks. The former Cy Young Award winner now seems close to returning to game action, while Scherzer could surprisingly return even sooner despite dealing with earlier setbacks during his rehab process.
After speaking with Schneider during Wednesday's media availability, Sportsnet's Shi Davidi shared the latest developments on X, formerly Twitter, regarding both veteran right-handers and their recovery timelines .
" Shane Bieber could be pitching in rehab games by the end of next week 'if all goes well,' said Schneider. Max Scherzer likely to throw a side tomorrow and 'could be closer (to a return) than Biebs if he continues to feel good.'"

The update represents the clearest recovery timeline attached to Bieber since he landed on the injured list earlier this season. It also suggests that Scherzer's recovery has accelerated faster than many initially expected, despite multiple interruptions that slowed his progress earlier in the year.
The Blue Jays desperately need more stability from their rotation while sitting fourth in the AL East at 21-27, 12 games behind the division-leading Tampa Bay Rays . Jose Berrios remains sidelined for the year, while several depth arms have already handled heavy workloads.
If Bieber and Scherzer continue progressing without setbacks, their returns could significantly improve Toronto's pitching outlook moving forward.
