If the Patriots make it to the AFC Championship game, it appears they’ll be facing a former New England quarterback .
Sean Payton announced after the Broncos ’ overtime win over the Bills that quarterback Bo Nix broke a bone in his ankle and will have season-ending surgery on Tuesday.
That moves Jarret Stidham into the starting job for next week’s AFC Championship game.
The Broncos will host the winner of Sunday’s game between the Patriots and Texans for a chance to go to the Super Bowl next week at Empower Field at Mile High at 3 p.m.
Stidham was a fourth-round pick (133 overall) of the Patriots in 2019.
Stidham is 1-3 in four career starts, two for the Raiders and two for the Broncos in 2023. He’s completed 117 of 197 passes for 1,422 yards. He’s thrown eight touchdowns and eight interceptions. He hasn’t thrown a pass in a regular-season game since 2023.
