Celtics president of basketball operations Brad Stevens got some recognition for his work this season. Stevens was named the NBA's Executive of the Year for the second time in three seasons, the NBA announced Tuesday . Stevens also won the award for the 2023-24 season, which is when the Celtics won the championship.
Stevens becomes the 12th executive to win the award multiple times. Stevens led the way with 11 first-place votes, four second-place votes and two third-place votes for a total of 69 points. The Hawks' Saleh Onsi finished in second place with 41 points and the Pistons' Trajan Langdon finished third with 40 points.
It's no surprise to see Stevens and the C's front office get their flowers for a successful season. While many outside the organization believed the C's were set for a gap year, they instead finished with a 56-26 record and the No. 2 seed in the East. Boston is once again a potential favorite to come out of the East.
The Celtics went through major changes last offseason, losing multiple veteran contributors due to salary constraints. Boston no longer had Jrue Holiday , Kristaps Porzingis , Al Horford and Luke Kornet . Plus, Jayson Tatum was expected to be sidelined for the majority of the season recovering from his Achilles injury.
But the Celtics kept winning anyway despite multiple new faces in the rotation. Jaylen Brown enjoyed a career-best season. Payton Pritchard was again a key contributor. But there were also new important pieces, like Jordan Walsh , Baylor Scheierman , Luka Garza , Hugo Gonzalez and more.
Much like when he won the award in 2024, Stevens will likely shy away from the recognition and defer to the rest of the organization. But the front office hit on multiple players despite the salary cap restrictions. There's a reason why the Celtics have been one of the best teams in the league this season. C's coach Joe Mazzulla is also a finalist for the NBA's Coach of the Year award.
The Celtics currently lead the Sixers 3-1 in the first round . Game 5 is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday at TD Garden as the C's have the chance to close out their division rivals. Then it'll be onto the second round of the playoffs for potentially a fifth straight season. Either the Knicks or Hawks will be waiting for Boston in the East semis as long as the Celtics take care of business against Philly.
