Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Brandon Woodruff exited Thursday’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks early. The Brewers ended up earning a 13-1 win, but there was concern with Woodruff as his velocity saw a decline . According to Adam McCalvy of MLB.com, Woodruff was placed on the 15-day injured list on Friday with right shoulder inflammation.
The veteran right-handed starting pitcher spoke to reporters after being placed on the IL, via Todd Rosiak.
“Just some shoulder inflammation,” Woodruff said. “I went out yesterday and honestly I felt good. Nothing alarmed me. And went out for my start and the ball just wasn’t coming out. Little inflammation in there.”
Woodruff added that he believes it could be a minimum stint on the IL.
The 33-year-old veteran pitched to a 3.60 ERA across his first six starts of the season before landing on the injured list. He struck out 25 hitters in his 30 innings of work on the mound.
It will be a situation to closely monitor. As long as no setbacks occur, Woodruff could realistically return after the 15 days. With that being said, an official return timeline has yet to be announced.
The Brewers have had an up and down start to the new campaign. The ball club is currently 16-14 and in fourth place in the National League Central standings. Milwaukee will attempt to find more all-around consistency despite Woodruff’s injury absence.
On Friday night, the Brewers will begin a three-game series on the road against the Washington Nationals . First pitch is scheduled for 6:45 PM EST.
