BOSTON — Marco Sturm won’t be afraid to go back to Jeremy Swayman on Sunday after playing him Saturday against the Tampa Bay Lightning .
“Yeah, absolutely. I mean, he’s our best guy,” the Bruins coach said after Saturday’s 2-1 loss to Tampa Bay . “He’s our best goalie all year long, and in those big moments, we need our best guys. So for me, it was definitely Sway.”
Swayman made 22 saves on 24 shots Saturday afternoon. He gave up the game-tying goal on a dribbler through the five-hole before Emil Lilleberg scored the game-winner with 1:35 to go.
Lilleberg’s goal came on a shot that went off Swayman’s pad for a rebound that Lilleberg scooped up and put into the open net
The goalie made some big stops for Boston throughout the game, including six high-danger chances from the Lightning.
The loss meant the Bruins failed to clinch a playoff spot against the Lightning. But they still punched their ticket to the postseason with losses by the Islanders and Red Wings on Saturday night.
The Bruins can’t dwell on their loss as they quickly get back to action with their final back-to-back of the regular season Sunday against the Columbus Blue Jackets .
“It’s important to stay in the moment, and you can easily get lost in the past and the future,” Swayman said. “But with this group right now, we need to just stay where our feet are and focus on the next challenge at hand.”
