BUFFALO, N.Y. — Twelve hours after their Game 1 loss to the Sabres, the Bruins were resolute in their belief that the frustrating end was the result of correctable mistakes.
They pushed back against the idea that the Sabres ’ physicality had worn them down.
“There’s always areas to improve. Overall, we were detailed. I liked our structure. There were a lot of good things,” Bruins coach Marco Sturm said . “We lost the game so we did something wrong. We touched on it today and try to improve tomorrow.”
He said the team’s confidence wasn’t shaken by loss.
“As long as we stick with it and the game we’re supposed to play, I like our chances. Our chances were pretty good after 50 minutes,” he said. “We still feel really good.”
The Bruins led for most of the game on Sunday, but gave up three goals in 4:34 to go from two goals ahead to one down in the third period.
Sturm thought his team felt better after watching video on Monday morning and then shifted focus to Game 2 on Tuesday.
“I got to the point right away so I feel better. I think these guys feel better too after watching,” Sturm said. “We’re ready for a long series. If you want to play a long series, yesterday was yesterday. Today it’s sunny here in Buffalo. We have to regroup, recharge and get back after that tomorrow.”
Hampus Lindholm agreed.
“This time of year, you have to have a really short memory. Take the good, and then move on. You can’t let that linger. Learn from it and move on,” he said. “We’ve done it all year, proven that all year. So have a lot of belief and trust in the guys on this team to go out there and play a really good game tomorrow.”
Whatever adjustments the Bruins make will come off the ice. They chose not to practice on Tuesday. The Sabres did the same.
