BOSTON — The struggling Flames proved to be a good opponent for a Bruins team looking to gather momentum and gain ground in the standings with the Olympic break less than a month away.
Boston jumped ahead early and rolled past Calgary , 4-1, on Thursday at TD Garden.
Joonas Korpisalo earned his first victory in almost a month.
The Bruins (23-19-2) will host the Rangers on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Sean Kuraly was a fight short of his first Gordie Howe Hat Trick since 2018 for the Bruins. He opened the scoring just shy of the halfway point of the first period with his fourth goal since returning to Boston.
Elias Lindholm finished a pretty passing sequence just over two minutes later to make it 2-0 after the first. Marat Khustnutdinov dropped the puck for David Pastrnak, who threaded the puck across the slot where Lindholm one-timed it by Dustin Wolf .
Kuraly set up Mason Lohrei to make it 3-0 and set off a flurry of action late in the second period with 5:58 left in the second period. Lohrei used a nifty toe drag to get free of a defender and fired the puck past Dustin Wolf.
Casey Mittelstadt extended the lead to 4-0 three minutes later.
Connor Zary ruined Joonas Korpisalo’s shutout bid with 1:16 left in the second.
The Bruins goalie was forced to settle for a 28-save victory that included several beauties in the second.
