The Cleveland Guardians are now 16-16 this season after earning a 3-1 victory against the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday. Outfielder Chase DeLauter has played a crucial role in Cleveland’s lineup this season. After the game, he shared an honest take on the 2026 Guardians, via Mason Horodyski.
“Great group of guys,” DeLauter said. “I mean, we have a great group of veterans that are leading the pack. Feels like us young guys have played together for a little bit. We kind of know what we got, we’re close. That’s exactly what you want. Go out there regardless of what happens, good at-bats, bad at-bats, good plays, bad plays, I mean we’re there for each other. I think it’s gonna result in some good wins at the end of the year.”
The Guardians have talent on the roster without question. Veterans such as Jose Ramirez are leading the way . Meanwhile, Guardians top prospect Travis Bazzana recently made his MLB debut .
DeLauter, a 24-year-old rookie, is impacting matters as well. The outfielder is hitting .257/.345/.485 across 29 games played. He has also hit five home runs, six doubles and a triple.
Cleveland fans are ready for a championship. The ball club has two World Series championships in franchise history, but the most recent one was in 1948. The Guardians have come excruciatingly close over the years — fans still remember what happened in 2016 against the Chicago Cubs — but they have been unable to get the job done in the Fall Classic.
Perhaps Ramirez, DeLauter, Bazzana and this core of Guardians players can lead Cleveland to its first championship since 1948.
