- "I cheated on her" - Spurs play-by-play voice is fired amid an alleged affair with the player's sister
What seemed like a relatively quiet offseason for the San Antonio Spurs has turned into a full-blown media circus overnight. The team's play-by-play voice, Jacob Tobey, went public on his social media accounts, announcing that he had cheated on his girlfriend of six years.
While it initially looked like his account might have been hacked, Tobey made sure there was no room for doubt. He followed up the post with a photo strip that appeared to show Tobey and Loren Waters, the sister of Spurs player Lindy Waters III , together and exchanging kisses.

"This is my girlfriend of six years. But I cheated on her with Loren Waters. So feel free to continue following me if you really think I'm a good guy because I'm not." Tobey posted on his "Instagram" story.
Spurs have decided to fire Tobey
Tobey's "Instagram" profile has since been locked, just as that of Waters' sister, making further information impossible to access. However, news leaked today that after a year and a half, the Spurs have decided to fire Tobey due to everything that has unfolded over the last few days.

Neither Tobey nor the organization has released an official statement regarding the situation yet. Earlier in his career, Tobey joined the Spurs from Denver , where he called games for the Broncos, Nuggets , Colorado Rockies and Avalanche.
As for Waters, he went undrafted entering the league in 2020 and made his official NBA debut during the 2021-22 season with the Oklahoma City Thunder . He only joined the Spurs' locker room last season, logging 40 appearances off the bench alongside nine playoff appearances, though in very limited minutes.
Nevertheless, if all of this proves to be true and everything points in that direction, it is highly unlikely we will see Tobey working for a serious sports organization anytime soon, especially given the incredibly public way he aired the entire situation.

Even though Waters is not a fixture in the team's regular rotation, this situation is undoubtedly highly uncomfortable for him. One can only hope it won't take a toll on his continued development in the league, especially after he was named a finalist for the NBA 2023–24 Social Justice Champion Award for the work his foundation does to support Native American youth through sports, health and wellness.
