The Crew finalized a three-year deal for midfielder Sekou Bangoura from Israel's Ironi Kiryat Shmona, marking Columbus' first new-player signing of the offseason.
Bangoura spent nearly two seasons with Ironi Kiryat Shmona, which he joined via loan from Turkey's Tuzlaspor, and appeared in 37 games.
The 23-year-old has experience playing center midfield, a position of need for the Crew following Darlington Nagbe's retirement.
"Sekou is a tenacious young player who helps strengthen our central midfield," Crew general manager Issa Tall said in a statement. "He has become a standout player on both sides of the ball in his league. We are eager to welcome Sekou to the club and help further his growth within our style of play."
A native of Guinea, Bangoura will take one of the Crew's eight international roster spots.
Along with adding Bangoura, the Crew have agreed to re-sign veterans Evan Bush and Rudy Camacho this offseason. On Dec. 31, the Crew announced Henrik Rydstrom would become their new head coach following Wilfried Nancy's departure.
