Emotions ran high throughout the rivalry matchup as the Cubs battled through a back-and-forth game that ended in a frustrating defeat. During the fifth inning, Crow-Armstrong responded to aggressive heckling from a fan seated behind the outfield wall after narrowly missing a catch attempt on a Miguel Vargas double.
Videos of the confrontation circulated rapidly online Sunday night, generating strong reactions from fans across baseball. Some defended Crow-Armstrong’s frustration during an emotional rivalry game, while others criticized the language he used during the exchange.
GNSports TV shared additional footage on its official X, formerly Twitter, account Monday evening while crediting WGN-TV Chicago for capturing Crow-Armstrong’s public response to the incident.
“ Pete Crow-Armstrong regrets his choice of words during an altercation with a fan at the #Cubs #WhiteSox Crosstown Classic finale”
Crow-Armstrong later explained what bothered him most about the situation while acknowledging the broader impact his comments could have beyond baseball.

“I think I just regret my choice of words the most, and who that affects in my life. I don’t think that any of the women in my life would ever think that I would use those kind of words regularly, especially referring to them.”
The comments added another layer to the growing attention surrounding Sunday’s rivalry game. While the incident sparked intense debate online, the Cubs center fielder also earned praise for publicly taking accountability and directly addressing the confrontation less than 24 hours later rather than avoiding questions about the emotional exchange altogether.
