Tyler Glasnow recently discussed how much better physically he has been feeling in the beginning of the 2026 campaign, but fans know better than to make assumptions when it comes to the 6-foot-8 starting pitcher’s health. The Los Angeles Dodgers are placing him on the injured list with low back spasms, the team announced on Friday.
The Dodgers refrained from immediately making this move , but the two-time defending World Series champions do not want to risk the 2024 All-Star’s long-term status. They will need him in October.
Glasnow left Wednesday’s 12-2 road win versus the Houston Astros after just one inning of work. He has been dealing with this specific issue since high school, so hopefully there won’t be any surprises during this recovery process. LA is recalling fellow right-hander Paul Gervase in Glasnow’s absence. He allowed one run in two innings pitched in an August game against the Colorado Rockies last season.
Although the Dodgers faced some trouble last week — dropping four straight games and losing a series each to the Miami Marlins and St. Louis Cardinals — the iconic franchise still expects to be contending for another title this postseason. Once the stakes intensify, manager Dave Roberts will want to lean on his starting rotation. That formula worked pretty well last time.
Tyler Glasnow has never surpassed 134 innings in the regular season during his 11-year MLB career. Hopefully, he will get the opportunity to reach that personal milestone in 2026. The 32-year-old has been superb to this point, tallying a 2.72 ERA and .0832 WHIP through 39 2/3 innings. He will rest up on the IL, while the Dodgers try to gain separation in the National League West.
Los Angeles (23-14) hosts the dangerous Atlanta Braves (26-12) on Friday night.
