Norway superstar Erling Haaland scored two goals in his team's Round of 16 matchup with Brazil , sending the five-time World Cup champions home early in a 2-1 final. Haaland has now scored in 14 straight matches for The Vikings, and the squad has now lost just two of its last 20 matches, with Haaland not playing in either of those. This Norway victory also stops Brazil 's streak of eight consecutive World Cup quarterfinal appearances.
Haaland's first goal came in the 79th minute as he headed a cross into the back of the net past Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson .
The second goal came just over 10 minutes later in the 90th minute. Haaland lashed up a big left-footed boot from just outside the box and found the bottom right corner of the net.
In stoppage time, Brazil's Neymar did net a penalty to make the final scoreline 2-1. However, it was too little, too late, and Norway moved on to the final eight.
Noway keeper Orjan Nyland was also a hero for his country. He made three saves in big moments, including on a penalty early in the match to keep it deadlocked at zero. That moment will be dissected by Brazil fans moving forward, as someone made the decision for Bruno Guimaraes to take the penalty over Vinicius Junior , who is one of the best players in the world.
Now, Haaland and company move on to the quarterfinals, where they will take on the winner of Sunday night's Mexico vs. England match. That will be on Saturday, July 11, in Miami.
