Norway and Brazil are currently facing off in the Round of 16 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup . Brazil came into the game favored to defeat Norway and had a chance to take the lead in the fixture. After a goal from Norway was called back for being offside, Brazil would later make an attack on goal in the tenth minute. The ball went toward Cunha , but he was tackled before he was able to get to the ball. After a VAR review, a penalty was confirmed.
This led to a penalty kick, which Bruno Guimaraes took, but it was saved by Orjan Nyland . This led to questions about why Guimaraes was taking the kick from NBA superstar Trae Young, among others.
"Should've let Vini Kick," Young posted on X, formerly Twitter.

It was a shocking move considering the presence of Vinicius Junior on the pitch. Vini Jr. currently has four goals at the World Cup, in just four games. He has been a prolific goal scorer in his career. In his international career, he has 13 goals in 53 fixtures with the senior team for Brazil. Still, in his club play, he is not the primary penalty kick taker. Playing for Real Madrid , the honor normally goes to Mbappe .
Still, he has not been great at converting penalties when he has been given a chance. In his time at Real Madrid, he has converted just nine of 14 total penalty kicks. He also missed one in World Cup qualification for Brazil back in 2024.
Regardless of the situation, the call to go with Guimaraes over Vini Jr. will be questioned if Norway pulls off the upset. The game is currently 0-0 heading into stoppage time of the first half.
