A former quarterback of the Pittsburgh Steelers believes he knows why Aaron Rodger has yet to sign with the team.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are still waiting to hear from quarterback Aaron Rodgers about whether he plans to play next season. However, former Steelers quarterback Charlie Batch believes that isn't the issue at all.
In fact, Batch thinks the Rodgers is ready to commit to a return to Pittsburgh but money is the hold-up.
"This is a guy who outplayed his contract," Batch said on The Snap Count podcast . "This decision is coming down to money. The Steelers would like him to come back, but it's not going to be at the $13 million number. I'm sure Aaron, and I haven't spoken to him, but I'm sure his representatives are wanting something closer to $30 [million], and you hope that, somewhere, you meet in the middle."
Rodgers, who will turn 43 next season, certainly played well last year, throwing for 3,322 yards, 24 touchdowns and seven interceptions while leading the Steelers to the playoffs with a 10-6 record.
However, $30 million would also be quite the steep ask from a player whose best football is behind him.
That doesn't mean Rodgers isn't deserving of more money than he received a season ago, but the best-case scenario at this point of the offseason is for both sides to reunite.

All of the top options in free agency are off the board and the 2026 NFL Draft has been depleted of talent after several of this year's top prospects decided to return to the respective teams.
Only time will tell how things will play out, but it would be quite surprising if money was what was preventing both sides from officially committing to one another.
The Steelers still have plenty of cap space and Rodgers doesn't really have any other options if he's looking to make one last run at the Vince Lombardi Trophy.
