With the Atlanta Hawks suffering an ugly 51-point loss in Game 6 against the New York Knicks on Thursday, 140-89, eliminating them from the NBA Playoffs in the first round, there was an altercation between the two teams that set the game ablaze. Within the Hawks' Game 6 beatdown at the hands of the Knicks , guard Dyson Daniels and center Mitchell Robinson would exchange some words and get tangled up, leading to the stoppage of play.
The two getting into each other's faces happened with 4:39 left in the second quarter as Atlanta was down 71-22, where, after OG Anunoby made a free throw, the two took issue with one another . As Daniels explains what happened , he would speak about how Robinson boxes out during free-throw attempts using his elbow, with the Hawks star having had enough.
"Over the series, there were a few elbows thrown. And he kind of does his thing on the free throws, where he puts his elbows really high and got me with like two or three of them throughout the series on the free throws. So I gave him one back. He didn't like it, I didn't like it. So it kind of just boiled over a little bit," Daniels said, via Jameelah Johnson.
"I thought it was just gonna be a tech and move on," Daniels continued. "But probably went for a little too long. So they just threw us out, plus, we were down 50 as well, which probably went into it. It was a silly play. I shouldn't have done it, but also just trying to stick up for myself as well."
There was no doubt that tensions were boiling until that moment, but the focus for the Atlanta player is to get better for next season.
