On Tuesday, the Los Angeles Lakers received word from LeBron James that the star would not be returning to the team in free agency this year, per NBA insider Shams Charania of ESPN. James is now set to join another team for the first time in eight years, with the Golden State Warriors viewed by many as the frontrunners to sign him in free agency.
Meanwhile, fans of the Lakers are left in a reflective mood on Tuesday as the star prepares to depart, and ClutchPoints recently outlined some of the Kid from Akron's accomplishments from his time in Los Angeles .
It's safe to say that James' Lakers career alone would be enough to make the Hall of Fame by itself, as would his other tenures with the Cleveland Cavaliers and Miami Heat individually. James joined the Lakers in the summer of 2018 when the team was in the middle of a rebuild, and within two years, the star had delivered the city another trophy to add to its collection.
Over the last couple of years, the Lakers' focus has understandably shifted to building around Luka Doncic following their trade with the Dallas Mavericks , and although James and Doncic have maintained a strong rapport on the court, some have wondered if Los Angeles' clear prioritization of the younger star may have rubbed James the wrong way behind the scenes.
Whatever the reason for his departure, Lakers fans will likely not meet James with anywhere near the virtiol that he felt when he first departed a team in free agency back in 2010.
