Bruins fans will have to wait a little longer to see James Hagens make his NHL debut.
Though he signed his three-year, entry level contract with Boston this week, Hagens won't play against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday afternoon, according to coach Marco Sturm.
"It's his first time up here," Sturm said. "This is about hockey. We could see it even in practice, he just needs time — to also get used to our system. I think that's the biggest thing. We're not going to throw that kid in and fail. I don't want to do that. He's on the right track. That's our next step. We will take it day by day and find the right time."
Including Saturday, the Bruins only have three regular season games remaining. They also play Sunday at Columbus and host New Jersey in the season finale on Tuesday night.
The No. 7 overall pick in the 2025 NHL entry draft, Hagens turned in a strong sophomore year at Boston College (23 goals, 24 assists) and went pro after his NCAA season concluded. The Bruins first sent Hagens to Providence, where he had a goal and three assists in six games before summoning him to Boston this week.
