Earth could freeze over, with dinosaurs making a comeback, but that would still not be as perplexing as the Boston Celtics trading Jaylen Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers .
The Celtics sent Brown to the 76ers on Wednesday in exchange for Paul George , two first-round picks, and two second-round picks, ending the much-ballyhooed saga that had gripped the offseason.
Obviously, Boston had its reasons for trading Brown to its division rival, but at face value, many believe, including ESPN's Kendrick Perkins , that the team made a terrible decision, especially considering what it got in return.
Perkins did not hold back on the Celtics' baffling move .
"It was one of the dumbest trades in NBA history," said Perkins.
"My guess is Jameer Nelson , Bob Myers, they should be serving breakfast in bed to Brad Stevens. I'm talking about cut-up fruit, seedless grapes, mint tea, and toast with strawberry jam because they finessed the hell out of him. This is just sad, all across the board."
The 76ers were barely mentioned in rumors surrounding Brown, but somehow, they pulled off something the former Finals MVP's multitude of suitors could not.
Before being dealt to Philadelphia , Brown was linked to the Milwaukee Bucks , the Denver Nuggets , the Atlanta Hawks , the Portland Trail Blazers , and the Los Angeles Clippers , among others.
Perkins hailed the Sixers' acquisition of Brown, while also calling out Celtics president of basketball operations Brad Stevens .
"He had already lost when he lost the Giannis (Antetokounmpo) sweepstakes to the Miami Heat . If you're going to jump off the porch and you're going to make Jaylen Brown available, you've got to make sure you pencil in that deal. This is nothing but sloppy seconds, in my opinion," added Perkins.
"He just basically handed the Philadelphia 76ers a trip to the NBA Finals next year."
Perkins won a title with the Celtics in 2008.
