With Kylian Mbappe looking to lead France past Morocco in the quarterfinals on Thursday night, the star had a chance to get a goal on the board. As Mbappe looks to make his mark on the Golden Boot race , he had an opportunity to connect on a penalty kick, though it went south.
As Mbappe had a chance at a penalty kick in the 28th minute, it would take a while before he attempted the shot, as the officiating crew was reviewing on VAR. After getting his kick blocked , Mbappe would be seen visibly furious with the referees.
"YASSIM BOUNOU SAVES KYLIAN MBAPPE'S PENALTY," the ClutchPoints' X, formerly Twitter, account wrote. "The Moroccan goalkeeper keeps his country level with France in the 1st half."

Kylian Mbappe misses first penalty kick in World Cup with France
What was seen as a mistake by Morocco in fouling Mbappe in the box that led to the penalty turned out to be a good foul, since it led to the missed penalty kick. However, one could imagine that it wasn't the plan to make Mbappe shoot a penalty kick, especially since he hadn't missed one until that point.
"KYLIAN MBAPPE DRAWS A FOUL IN THE BOX, AND IT'S A PENALTY AWARDED TO FRANCE," the CLutchPoints account wrote.
Mbappe is looking to will France into the semifinals, but an impressive and stout Morocco team stands in the way, as it looks like it will be another grueling game for the program. Especially coming off another tough contest against Paraguay , winning 1-0, where an Mbappe penalty kick was the difference maker, the French need to stay on their toes and not take their eyes off the ball.
With the score at zero goals a piece at halftime, Mbappe and France look to dominate the second half.
