The Los Angeles Lakers continued their strong start to the NBA Summer League with a 99-84 win as Cameron Carr returned with a game-high 23 points . The 21-year-old from Baylor was drafted by the New York Knicks and subsequently traded to the Lakers, who may have landed a potential bargain.
Carr went 8-18 from the field and also had two assists and a block in 29 minutes. Speaking to Kristina Pink post-game, Carr joked that he was no 'pretty boy' and had come to play basketball, per a post on X by Oh No He Didn't.
"Gotta get some new braids. I aint no pretty boy, I'm here to play basketball!" he said.
The Lakers also saw Chris Manon score 17 points, with Adou Thiero adding 13 points, six rebounds and three assists, going 5-6 from the field. The game had six lead changes within the first few minutes, but the Lakers never trailed once they got to 10-9. Arthur Kaluma added 15 points off the bench while the Clippers were led in scoring by Kobe Sanders , who scored 18 points and also had six rebounds and two assists, but with four turnovers.
Keaton Wagler had 16 points, six rebounds and four assists, but went just 6-15 from the field. The Clippers never threatened to keep up and were already 16 points down by halftime. They shot at a paltry 42.6% from the field and 23.8% from beyond the arc. Still, Nick Martinelli was able to snag a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Still, it was the Lakers who came away with more positives from the game. They have undergone a major change with the departure of LeBron James and have made an efficient signing spree in the aftermath. Carr is set to join a new-look Lakers roster that will be tooled to get the best out of the likes of Austin Reaves and more prominently Luka Doncic .
As far as the Summer League is concerned, the Lakers will now play the Chicago Bulls on Thursday, while the Clippers will be up against the Washington Wizards on Wednesday.
